Conservationist Retreats in Northern MN

Sponsored trip by the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota

Visit the retreats of Sig Olson and Ernest Oberholtzer! This 3 day trip, scheduled for June 12-14,2015  will visit Ely, International Falls, and Mallard Island on Rainy Lake.

Cost is a $150 non-refundable deposit. Please make checks to the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota and mail them to 416 Landmark Center, 75 W 5th Street, St. Paul, 55102.

Tentative itinerary:

Friday, June 12th:

1:00pm: Tour of Listening Point Retreat of Sig Olson near Ely, MN. Meet at noon at a café in Ely for lunch, car pool to Listening Point

Friday night: Lodging at Thunderbird cabins on Rainy Lake. Group dinner. Individually paid for lodge & meals.

Check out near by Voyageurs Park Visitors Center

Saturday, June 13th:

9:00am: Free breakfast & tour of the Backus Community center, reuse of an early 20th century school, has the largest theater north of Hibbing.

1:00pm:  Picnic Lunch at Bald Rock

2:00pm:  departure to Mallard Island, 1920-1970 home of Ernest Oberholtzer

Camping in rustic cabins overnight on Mallard Island (bring sleeping bags, linen & towels)

Sunday, June 14th:

2:00pm: Return to Bald Rock, drive home

*Deposit includes an evening at Mallard, dinner, breakfast and two lunches. Transportation not included but carpooling is STRONGLY encouraged! This is about a 6 hour drive from the Twin Cities.
