Doug Gasek as new Executive Director

Former Executive Director of Alaska Association for Historic Preservation
Will Oversee Growing Statewide Organization

SAINT PAUL, MN, October 1, 2012 – The Preservation Alliance of Minnesota (PAM), the only statewide, private, non-profit organization advocating for the preservation of Minnesota’s historic resources has named Doug Gasek as its new Executive Director.

Mr. Gasek, who had been serving as both the Executive Director for the Alaska Association for Historic Preservation and the State Architectural Historian for the Alaska Department of Parks and Outdoor Recreation will be in charge of ensuring all activities and programs meet the stated mission and goals of the organization. Under Doug’s leadership, PAM will continue to work to educate people and organizations to help increase awareness of state history, community preservation, and important community values.

We look forward to the direction he will set for ensuring a strong future for historic preservation in Minnesota,” noted Michael Bjornberg, Board Chair of PAM. “Doug’s understanding of preservation issues and opportunities will greatly benefit PAM, preservationists, property developers and citizens of the state.

Before joining PAM, Mr. Gasek oversaw the Alaska Association for Historic Preservation where he oversaw and led new growth areas through increases in membership, revenue, and strategic partnerships with both public and private entities. Concurrently, serving as State Architectural Historian for the Alaska Department of Parks and Outdoor Recreation he also supervised the Architectural History section including Local Government Programs, Easements, Preservation Planning, Architectural Survey and Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credits.

Prior to these positions, Mr. Gasek held a number of positions including Historian and Archaeologist for the United States Department of Agriculture.

Mr. Gasek has an MA in Historic Preservation from Southeast Missouri State University and a BA in History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
