New Metropolis MN: March 30th

1000 Friends of Minnesota and Twin Cities Public Television are hosting an event on Wed., March 30 called “New Metropolis Minnesota: Growing Together as a Region.” The event will take place at the Bloomington Center for the Arts from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The audience will view excerpts from a recent documentary called “The New Metropolis” now airing on PBS stations nationwide. The films will be used to launch a conversation about the challenges facing our older suburbs. Panelists will discuss the difficulties of maintaining infrastructure in the face of budget shortfalls, and ways to build equitable communities where all residents can thrive. The evening forum will include a diverse set of voices, including Metropolitan Council Chair Susan Haigh, Richfield Mayor Debbie Goettel, Terri Thao of Nexus Community Partners, Myron Orfield of the Institute on Race & Poverty, Eden Prairie Somali community advocate Ahmed Jama, Rodolfo Gutierrez of HACER in Minneapolis, former Minneapolis Board of Education director Chris Stewart, the filmmaker Andrea Torrice, and other invited guests.

The event is free but registration is required.
